Who We Are

Not Quite Proficient Arts Association was founded in early 2023 by friends that credit Dungeons and Dragons for bringing them together and fostering creativity between them. With the collective understanding that tabletop roleplaying games help foster creativity, community, and individual discovery, they set out to bring creative resources and tools to people who may typically not have access or a space to be themselves.

  • While beginning his post secondary education, Zackary Greig found himself bored. He began creating written adventures and stories for himself and his friends. This led him to recognizing a passion for his own creative writing, and in creating larger role play experiences he would help a wide range of people explore their own creativity. During this time he noticed something simple - people had trouble expressing their ideas. So, with an idea and a basis for how they might help, Zack gathered together a number of similarly minded people to begin the Not Quite Proficient Arts Association.

Here he strives to create opportunities for people to express themselves, to become comfortable sharing their ideas and their art. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to write something. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to start a new hobby but are worried about how not good at it you are. It’s his hope that NQP will foster the same creativity and passion he found for himself in others.

  • Gamemaster

Dustin Mayberry is one of the Gamemasters for NQP. They grew up acting since they were in fifth grade, always appreciating role-playing games and even getting involved with them by the time they were in middle-school. They have always enjoyed dnd and a variety of other tabletop roleplaying games, and have wished for quite a long while to make it their full time job. It’s why they are so pleased to be a part of NQP now.

They connected to NQP through the shared love for roleplay. They involved themselves in the roleplay community, which eventually led them to Zack Grieg. After speaking with him many times regarding their interest in his world and job as a Dungeon Master, he very kindly welcomed them into the company! Since then they have had the time of their life writing, designing, and running campaigns alongside their fellow Gamemasters and coworkers, and look forward to the future.

  • Gamemaster

Corellian Turney is a Dungeon Master for Not Quite Proficient. He is currently studying biomedical science at university in the UK and runs Dungeon and Dragons games in his free time here to help with what he thinks is important.

One of the largest and most helpful parts of his life is having a creative outlet. Working with NQP allows other people to have that same opportunity in a safe environment. If this sounds like a cause you also believe in, then support NQP in a way you are capable of, from joining games or even just watching streams NQP produces so more people can have a safe and positive creative outlet.

  • Creative Workshop Specialist

Henry McKissick is a Creative Workshop Specialist for Not Quite Proficient. When he isn’t working on the website or developing workshops, he’s working in his own community to bolster nonprofits and increase capacity of asset-based community development projects. His passion for helping others has been lifelong; to pair it with his love for TTRPGs was only natural.

He cites the welcoming environments of TTRPGs as the warm embrace he needed to be himself and grow creatively. His goal is to pass along the same kindness extended to him when he first began playing tabletop games. If this is a mission you feel strongly in as well, consider donating to NQP today.

  • Creative Workshop Specialist

Dmitry Sanders is a workshop specialist at Not Quite Proficient. Currently, he is studying English Education and will be making preparations to graduate soon here with his Bachelor’s degree in such. However, as a long-time roleplayer and avid writer, he hopes to put his classical education to use and provide creative resources and direction beyond the classroom, such as through workshops hosted by NQP.

Creativity is an outlet from corner to corner of the world. For many, creativity is a comfort in a world that casts its long shadow of doubt and horror onto its most vulnerable; it gives us a means to speak the unspoken and write the unwritten. At NQP, Dmitry is able to ensure his dues are paid to creatives of the past by ensuring the accessibility of creative resources. If such a cause strikes a chord with you, come, join us at Not Quite Proficient, and not only find community in one another– but grow with us.
